About Us

Meet the Team Behind Idaho BMI

At Idaho BMI, we help people lose weight permanently. But the primary focus is not only on weight loss alone; instead we focus on the “big picture” — health, longevity, energy level, getting off of medications, and helping you reach your full potential. Our comprehensive program utilizes the latest research in neuroscience, metabolism, exercise physiology, and nutritional biochemistry to optimize the results of bariatric surgery. Through our social media and podcasts, we seek to broadcast the new science of obesity and metabolic disease.

What sets Idaho BMI apart from other bariatric practices across the country, is our focus on the reprogramming of your brain through mindful eating habits that begin before the actual bariatric surgery procedure. These habits, along with the tools and support we provide, are proven to garner long term success.

Idaho BMI sees patients from all across the country for weight loss surgery, and offers a competitive self-pay rate for bariatric surgery at our outpatient surgical center, Everest Surgical Institute. Reprogram your brain. Redefine your future. Idaho BMI.

Meet Dr. Brown: Pioneering a New Era in Bariatric Care

After opening the very successful Idaho BMI in 2019, Dr. Brown founded Everest Surgical Institute in 2021. The reason is simple. He wanted to take care of his patients in a new and better way, without letting daily politics or money get in the way.

His background is just as impressive. Dr. Brown studied medicine at University of California, Davis and completed his surgical residency at Dartmouth, where he earned awards for his leadership, scholarship, and respect for human life. He is also a fellow of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).

Awards and experience aside, Dr. Brown is rooted in deep values from growing up on a 2,000 acre alfalfa farm with his parents and seven brothers and sisters. In fact, he still sees himself as a bit of a cowboy, blazing new trails in weight loss management.

His areas of expertise are bariatric surgery, revision bariatric surgery, nutrition and metabolism, ketogenic lifestyle, longevity, exercise science, and chronic metabolic disease.

Don’t live in Idaho? No problem. He’ll put you up in a local hotel and stay connected after surgery with telemedicine appointments.

Kate Armstrong

Nurse Practitioner

Kate has worked with Dr. Brown in the operating room since 2016 and shares his philosophy on bariatric surgery as a tool for overall success.

She feels privileged to hear patients’ stories and watch as they go from struggling to succeeding. In fact, the most rewarding part of her job is after surgery, seeing patients’ new sense of control in their relationship with eating.

She values hard work and creative problem solving, which she traces back to growing up on the family cattle ranch.

When she’s not on horseback in the desert, Kate can be found gardening, making her own hot sauce, tending to her cows and chickens, and enjoying quality family time.

Stephanie Breilh

Physician Assistant

Stephanie joins Idaho BMI with a strong surgical background serving patients in the Treasure Valley since 2019. She is passionate about teaching patients the principles they need in order to guide their success in living a healthy and rewarding lifestyle.

Many years of competitive athletics helped foster her true love for a team-oriented environment, which she employs foundationally in her relationship with patients. Stephanie approaches each relationship with her patients as a partnership on the journey to more optimal health and well-being.

She has a special interest in Deep Brain Stimulation for functional movement disorders and works closely with Physicians across the region in the process of implanting and programming this technology for patients affected by these disorders.

When not at work, Stephanie can be found spending time with her three young children and husband, as well as hiking, skiing and riding her horse.
