Cardiovascular disease is the most common cause of death in America. If you randomly chose a person on the street and asked the question- what is most likely to cause his or her death, the most likely answer is either a heart attack or stroke. There are many risk factors for cardiovascular disease- diabetes, high blood pressure, abnormal cholesterol panel, smoking etc. The underlying mission at Idaho BMI is to help people live longer and be more healthy- getting off medications and reducing risks. We are committed to decreasing risk for cardiovascular disease. We routinely test patients for markers of risk. This is done through checking labs that reflect risk- lipid panel, ApoB 100, markers of inflammation (hsCRP), fasting insulin, Hemoglobin A1C, Vit D, along with the more typical labs (blood count and metabolic panel). It is very rewarding for us and our patients to see improvements in these labs over time as they implement the lifestyle changes that lower risk.
