I have had weight problems all my adult life. It seems as if I was a yo-yo and just always was either up or down. I’ve tried almost every diet out there and always seemed to gain back more than I lost.
A little over two years ago, my doctor recommended Dr. Brown and I made an appointment. I was very apprehensive but he made me feel very comfortable on the very first visit. His staff was wonderful, also. I soon realized this was what I needed to do and I had surgery in September 2018.
This two year journey hasn’t always been easy but it has been rewarding. I am a great believer in Dr. Brown and I followed his advice and instructions as closely as I could. Within a year I had lost my weight and have kept it off this second year. I still have to be conscious of my body and stay committed to the things that I’ve learned from Dr. Brown, but my health and stamina have improved so much that it comes easier than I thought it would. Before surgery, I had a sleep apnea machine, cholesterol medication and a couple other health problems. I now take no meds and don’t need my sleep apnea machine. I sleep better and have more energy than I have in years. I’m a great believer and I love Dr. Brown and his staff.
I have struggled with my weight for many years. I tried dieting, the gym, and personal trainers. I managed to lose about 50 lbs with going to the gym and a personal trainer, then had to have hip replacement and gained it all back. I started working with my trainer again after my hip replacement and just couldn’t seem to manage to lose again and I found that I was just gaining more. It was very frustrating and the more I gained, the less comfortable I felt. I was on high blood pressure medication and my Dr. put me on diabetes medication because my tests were coming back as pre-diabetic. My primary care physician suggested Dr. Brown. Dr. Brown and the staff at Idaho BMI are all wonderful! Within a couple months of having my surgery, I started feeling very confident with my weight loss journey and my new eating habits. I’m feeling much better these days. I’m a little over 6 months in now and am down almost 70 lbs and still losing (I still have a ways to go). I’m off my pre-diabetes meds and my high blood pressure meds. I couldn’t have made a better decision than to go down this path and I’m so thankful that I was sent Dr. Brown’s way.
I had type 2 diabetes and an A1C of 11.7; heart problems; constant heartburn; constant pain in my back, knees, hips and ankles. I felt lost, like a failure. I felt sick and tired. I felt ugly and unwanted. I chose Dr. Brown after my PCP suggested weight loss surgery. I did some research and everything pointed to Dr. Brown. I decided if I was going to take this step, I wanted the best.
The moment I realized this was working for me was about 3 weeks post-OP when I looked in the mirror and for the first time in 25 years, I had ONLY 1 CHIN!!! Life today, 10 months post-OP, is completely changed. I no longer have diabetes, heart problems, heartburn or pain. Yes, I have NO PAIN!! My self esteem has increased by 90%. I constantly get compliments on how amazing I look and how much I have changed. But the best of all….I AM HEALTHY.
I had tried losing weight many, many, many times before working with Dr. Brown. It was always lose a few pounds, gain more back. This struggle went on for several years, around 40. My blood pressure was increasing as well as my cholesterol. And I was tired all the time. In addition my Sleep Apnea was getting worse. Sleep was quite a challenge.
My wife, who’s also a patient of Dr. Brown’s, and I have a close friend who went to Mexico to get a gastric bypass surgery, several years ago. His progress after surgery was remarkable. My wife was the first to begin researching local answers for this same transformation; we did not want to go to Mexico. After researching the local availability we went to Dr. Brown’s introductory meeting. After meeting him and understanding his approach to this issue, we both decided, he’s our man. My wife was the first to begin this journey back in 2017. I went through her pre-surgery, surgery & post surgery experience doing the same thing she did. I lost weight as well.
Dr. Brown is not just a surgeon. He has a well rounded approach to correcting years of bad habits. He surrounds himself with knowledgeable people, who also subscribe to his approach. He has a program that, if followed, will make you successful. He is a Leader!
Switching to a low carb diet was successful for me. However I soon jumped back to my overeating habits. It was clear to me that after my wife’s experience that the surgery was important for me. I worked hard on the habits of chewing 25-40 times and waiting between bites. This was successful and I did lose a little weight. However the surgery was the deal breaker. It made everything work!
My blood pressure is down to a very reasonable range. I currently take 25% of the medication I did before surgery. My Cholesterol is down and I no longer take any medication for it. I have ENERGY that I haven’t had in 30-40 years. My sleep has improved greatly. I currently no longer use a CPAP machine for sleep. I am only 5 months out from surgery and have almost reached my goal weight. Only 8 pounds to go! Life is good!
I started my journey 8 years ago frustrated with all the fad diets, hiring trainers, and failed lap band surgery. My body was not responding to anything. I have Rheumatoid/Psoriatic Arthritis, Systemic Lupus, and Sjogrens Syndrome. I was extremely reluctant to try the gastric sleeve when I went in and met Dr. Brown and it was refreshing to hear his approach of the mind and body as one. So naturally, I started really listening and going over all the material and it was like a light bulb went off. How has this not been talked about alot more?
He then went onto his own practice and I followed him. I loved his approach and I wanted to learn more. I had the surgery on July 8th, 2019 and after 1 year I have gone from 260 lbs to 178 lbs. 82 lbs total loss but I gained so much more (health, strength, moving freely, ability to play with my grand babies, and knowledge) I couldn’t be happier.
Thank you Dr. Brown for changing my life.
